Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
